Talks on Ongoing Support for Disaster Areas in Iwate Prefecture

On the 8 August 2012, a visit to Iwate Prefecture was made by Fred Gerber, manager of Japan support activities at the international medical relief organization Project HOPE, together with Health and Global Policy Institute Chairman Kiyoshi Kurokawa and Senior Associate Kazumi Kubota.
As part of providing tangible support to the Iwate Prefectural town of Yamada, Project HOPE has agreed on the provision of funds for the reestablishment of a private hospital within the town, with HGPI serving in a mediating position. In response to this decision, a certificate of appreciation was presented by Yamada town mayor Shin-Itsu Sato.
In addition to this, discussions were held in order to ensure the provision of ongoing support that is centered on implementation of policies and measures for the future care of the elderly, and involved Mr. Sato, health and welfare experts from Yamada, and individuals working in the medical profession in the area. Talks were further held on the following day of 9 August to also include experts in health and welfare from Iwate Prefecture.
On the basis of these talks, Project HOPE confirmed their intentions to provide ongoing support to Yamada while also placing the highest priority on the voices of those from the area.
